You will gain performance and production experience in our 300+ seat main stage as well as our black box theatre. Our award-winning faculty will help you explore the creative components, management, technical theatre and the history and theory of theatre.

Theatre (BA/BS)

Our program equips you with acting techniques and skills, theatrical presentation, direction, production and management of theatre operations and insight on modern theatre and theatre of varying cultures which will prepare you for careers in acting, design, technology management, production, theatre management, education and sound management.

Theatre (BA/BS) Teaching Emphasis

Our program equips you with the acting, directing and production skills needed for the high school classroom. You’ll take courses in stage management, theatre operations, costume design and lighting. Gain insight into modern theatre and theatre of varying cultures through our course offerings. Our combined theatre and education program prepares you for a career in teaching. You’ll take courses in pedagogy, learning processes and development, and classroom management. After completing a teaching residency, you’ll be certified to teach theatrical arts at the secondary level (grades 7-12).

Theatre (MA)

Students can focus on the following topics: acting, lighting, modern theatre, theatre history, theatrical design, directing, management, playwriting, theatre pedagogy and theory. We provide our students with an easy admission process, access to scholarships and graduate assistantships, individualized attention from award-winning faculty and a flexible combination of online and face-to-face instruction. East Texas A&M is the only A&M System university that offers this degree.

The Box Office

Get tickets and see us on stage! The Box Office is located inside of the Performing Arts Center on the East Texas A&M campus in Room 101B. Ticket sales and reservations will begin two weeks before opening night.

The University Playhouse

As a student, you will direct, design or perform in plays at The University Playhouse. The Playhouse is where you will refine your craft throughout the year.

Get hands on experience creating sets, costumes and props in our fully functioning productions shops. See your designs come to life with digital rendering and CAD based drafting programs and equipment.

The Performing Arts Center houses two theatrical spaces, a 60+ seat black box theatre and a 300+ seat main stage theatre to develop and refine your crafts as a theatre practitioner.

Lion Theatre Camp

Experience two weeks of intensive theatrical training with the state's best teachers, directors and designers. This amazing theatre camp provides performance and technical theatre training classes with outstanding teachers from across the state.
